Man Files Claim to Take Supreme Court Justice’s House Under New Eminent Domain Law

-- as reported by Citizenlink

I guess we can now see how Justice Souter likes it.

After voting in support of a Supreme Court ruling that expanded communities' power to claim private property, Justice David Souter had a claim placed against his house -- to build the "Lost Liberty Hotel."

Mr. Logan Clements, CEO of Freestar Media and a conservative activist, is attempting to take control of Souter's property in New Hampshire.

The proposed hotel would include the "Just Desserts Cafe."

"This is not a prank," Clements said. "The Towne of Weare has five people on the Board of Selectmen. If three of them vote to use the power of eminent domain to take this land from Mr. Souter, we can begin our hotel development."

Judge Decides Boy Scouts Not Worth Public Support

U.S. District Judge Blanche Manning has ruled that the Pentagon can no longer sponsor a Boy Scout jamboree held every four years because they openly promote the idea that God exists. According to the judge, this violates the rendered view of "separation of church of state."

[Editors note: So much for the government promoting the country's best club for building character in young boys!]

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia recently stated, the neutrality envisioned by the founders of our country regarding this idea of “separation of church and state” is “not neutrality between religiousness and nonreligiousness; it is between denominations of religion.”

Senator overheard promising that Democrats will ‘go to war’ over the President’s nominee – regardless of who it is.

Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., a powerful member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, was overheard promising that Democrats would "go to war" over President Bush's nominee -- regardless of the candidate the president nominates. Tom Minnery, vice president of government and public policy at Focus on the Family Action, said:

"It is impossible, in light of these comments, for any candidate likely to be advanced by the president to get a fair hearing from Sen. Schumer," he said. "Senators are constitutionally obligated to offer their advice and consent on court nominees. All Sen. Schumer is prepared to offer is his disgust and contempt." Read more.

Debate Continues In Ohio Over 'Choose Life' License Plates

“Today Show” Openly Promotes Illegal Activities

The following is a short email* to the Executive Producer of the Today Show:

Subject: Mama really likes your show. But not for long after I tell her what you're up to.

Dear Jim Bell,

Let me make sure I got this right: you want to “celebrate” on your morning show something 49 out of 50 states in this country consider illegal? Then, of course, let’s not forget to mention also, the fact that every civilized society…since the dawn of man considers such relationships deplorable. ( … The exceptions are Canada and the Netherlands, which by their recent rulings could arguably be reclassified as uncivilized societies.)

It doesn't matter, as you state, that it should be promoted as a good thing, just because there exists a state that has legalized same-sex marriage. As mama always says, “Just because someone else jumps off a bridge, doesn't mean you have to.”

By the way, Mama really likes your show. But not for long after I tell her what you're up to.

I know my mama. Once she hears you guys are in on redefining marriage away, she'll tell all her friends to watch another morning show from now on.

Sincerely,

Ed "Bubba" Nicholson

* Understand that the tone and style I employed in this email was not intended to come across as flippant or glib. On the contrary, at the very least, a funnier, winsome approach hopefully will disarm the reader of this email so that they might actually listen to the point I’m trying to make – that is, that a decision by a few blacked-robe judges doesn’t necessarily make something right, nor should it be tolerated by society at large. At best, my hopes would be that the recipient might even forward the email on to others in the Today Show’s office so that they too may get my point. (Secondly, on an insignificant, yet anal note, I made slight alterations here since first writing to the producer. However, none of the content or tone really changed.)

Time to Celebrate: Cost of Government Day Just Passed

-- Citizenlink (by Bill Wilson, Washington, D.C., correspondent)

SUMMARY: It takes the average American until July 4 to pay off the cost of government.

The Founding Fathers rebelled at less than a penny tax on tea. Now, government consumes 50.4 percent of all personal income -- and this July 4 marked the date when the average American worker has earned enough to pay off his or her share of government expenses.

Broken down, it takes 125 days to pay for all federal, state and local spending, 60 days to pay for federal and state regulations.

Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist said there is good news and bad news in the fact that Americans are now working more than half the year until they reach what's been called Cost of Government Day.

"The good news for the total cost of government is that the regulatory burden is coming down a little bit with some of the deregulation under President Bush. State and local government costs are coming down a little bit," he explained. "The bad news is that federal government spending continues to grow."

Daniel Clifton, executive director of the American Shareholders Association, said the government spends more than it receives.

"So you've worked half the year just to pay off all costs imposed at all levels of government," he said. "And without reform of our major federal programs, we're going to be working into mid-August."

The future, he added, will be bleak in absence of reform.

"We are obviously headed in the wrong direction," he said. "As the population ages, the growth of the government is going to continually grow."

The remedy, Norquist explained, is a tax structure that reduces government growth and stimulates the economy.

"Step one," he said, "is to have pro-growth tax cuts and pro-growth deregulation so that the economy grows more rapidly."
